Outdoor Ideas for Mother’s Day in Sydney
Mother’s Day Classic
An increasingly popular way to spend the day is the Mother’s Day Classic. The fun run is a charity event designed to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Runners and walkers are asked to wear pink for the event and the circuit comes alive with a mass of pink bodies.
The fundraising event involves participants completing a 4km or 8km circuit. Moderate fitness is required but the circuit can be completed at each individuals desired pace. The Mother’s Day Classic is a nationwide initiative with two events held in Sydney; one in the Domain and one in Parramatta Park in Western Sydney.
Picnic in the park
If picnics are your way to celebrate, Sydney will not disappoint with a range of beautiful parks across the city.
A personal favourite of mine is at Audley Weir, located in the Royal National Park. The picnic area has water views, hot food and drinks are available nearby and the waterside location makes this spot a winner. If you want to include some family activities, there are canoes, dinghies and pedal boats available for hire.
Centennial Park is another great family option with vast expanses catering for every interest. You can gather the troops to rollerblade ride a bike or even ride a horse. The sprawling scenery includes statues, ponds and native Australian flowers and tours and workshops are available for those interested.
Lane Cove National Park is an expansive park with more than 20 separate picnic areas so you will always find a spot somewhere. Water views abound with Lane Cove River running through the centre of the park. Canoes and pedal boats are available for hire.
Heading west, Auburn Botanical Gardens have become a popular picnic location. The park features a picturesque Japanese garden that is landscaped with a waterfall and decorative bridges over a lake.
Now & Then Markets
Now & Then markets in Wolli Creek are a great family event typically held the weekend before Mother’s Day. The markets display clothing, jewellery, home wares and trinkets so you’re likely to find unique gifts.
The day features live yoga and kung fu demonstrations, free self-defence classes and live band performances. There are kids’ activities such as face painting, a jumping castle and pony rides.
There are lots of Mother’s Day activities and locations around Sydney, so have fun choosing whichever option suits you best. Happy Mother’s Day from the team here at The Town!
