Getting Great Resources For Hispanic Women In Business
As the wage decomposition in this brief demonstrates, the wage gap for Hispanic women is primarily caused by unexplained discrimination, followed by workplace segregation and restricted access to educational opportunities. Access to training and apprenticeship is especially important for underrepresented groups.
Screening mammograms are the leading method of identifying early breast cancer. According to a National Cancer Society Survey, only 61 percent of Hispanic/Latina women over age 40 reported having a screening mammogram in the two years prior to the survey, compared to 65 percent of white women. In the United States, the rate of breast cancer in Hispanic/Latina women is lower than in non-Hispanic white women. (The incidence is even less in Hispanic/Latina women who were not born in the country.) But those statistics can be deceiving.
This population-based study used an interrupted time series design to assess 32.9 million live births and found that the number of preterm births among Latina women increased above expected levels after the election. Research shows that they’re paid 47 percent less than white men and 31 percent less than white women on average.
Because the Latina ethnicity encompasses a large variety of people, including people of various races from various countries, it is difficult to define the Latina Family experience in a simple way. To do so would oversimplify this population and result to stereotyping, as the experience of Latinas is just as nuanced as the women who comprise this ethnic group.
The culturally sensitive editorial environment we provide showcases Latina achievements in all areas, including business, science, civic affairs, education, entertainment, sports, and the arts. Hispanic women were also 30 percent less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than non-Hispanic white women. Hispanic American men and women generally have lower cancer rates than the non-Hispanic white population.
We found level shifts but no slope changes starting in August 2016 for male and October 2016 for female preterm births to Latina women. The exposure coefficient for female births was 110.6 (95% CI, 61.6-159.6), implying 995 more preterm births (95% CI, ) than the that would have been expected based on preelection data.
Latina workers are far more likely to be found in certain low-wage professions than white men are (and less common in high-wage professions). But, even in professions with more Latina workers, they still are paid less on average than their white male colleagues.Figure Bshows the average wages of Hispanic women and white non-Hispanic men in the 10 most common occupations for Latinas.
Spalluto hopes to conduct future studies that dive deeper into the relationship between a community health worker and a patient to determine factors that make the approach successful. Insight into these relationships could allow the model to be translated to other cultures. “This study would not have been possible without the commitment of our community partners and the dedication of Angelica Deaton, our promotora,” said Spalluto.

Although Krieger et al19 provide evidence consistent with an association between the election and preterm births among Latina women, the methods the authors used did not adjust for secular trends, cycles, or other forms of temporal patterning that could lead to spurious findings. Because preterm birth varies seasonally,20 for example, a comparison between the periods before and after an event such as a presidential election should ensure that any association does not arise solely from seasonally expected shifts from lower to higher numbers of preterm births. Second, it remains unclear whether the patterns found in New York City generalize nationwide. Given that New York City has signaled support for immigrants by limiting cooperation between local agencies and federal immigration authorities,21-23 national data may show sharper increases in preterm births after the election. Two recent studies17,18 investigated how anti-immigration legislation and policing affected births among Latina women.
This language barrier plays a significant role in the Latina educational experience and progress. Latinx women are twice as likely to develop depression as compared to Latinx men, white populations or African-American populations3. Research also indicates that employed Latinx women are more stressed than unemployed ones4.

We collected ethnographic data on their beliefs related to gender and social norms and sexual communication, as well as their knowledge and misconceptions concerning HIV.
The Wage Gap For Latina Workers Is Still 54 Cents That’S Troubling.

Situations like these are widespread, especially among households in which Black and Latina women live, according to Household Pulse Survey data. (See Figure 3.) About 1 in 3 Black and Latina women in households with incomes under $35,000 reported not being able to pay the previous month’s rent on time. And about half of Black and Latina women reported having little or no confidence that they would be able to pay next month’s rent, compared to less than a third of white women. Nationally, Black and Latina women have suffered a disproportionate loss of employment income in the current crisis due to their overrepresentation in retail and other service jobs, many of which ended abruptly when the pandemic started.
